A Night Without A Woman

Yesterday I was asked how I would be spending the day, and I answered quite simply:

On Wednesday I intend to masturbate, have lunch with my former work wives at a women-owned restaurant, and march in Central Park. I plan to spend the evening finishing Redefining Realness by Janet Mock. I won't be humoring any men.

But then I remembered that I'm working tonight. "Will you be walking out at midnight?" someone commented on social media.

The truth is, I don't know. "Walking out" at my club usually results in suspensions or firings. As independent contractors, some might argue that all we're taking by striking is a pay cut. Maybe I'll just charge double after midnight. If I'm called onstage, what if I refuse to dance, or just lie there? Maybe I dance like a dad.  I'm keen to experiment with what feels right, most effective, and I'm obviously way too excited to report on what tactics piss off dudes the most.

I don't know that there's a 'right' way to strike, but I am certain there are many.

To quote Janet Mock (who is amazing, who's book I'm reading right now, and who you should be following on any and all of her social media pages) "Our approach to freedom need not be identical but it must be intersectional. "

The only thing I'm certain I won't be doing on March 8th is criticizing others for how they spent it. All the 'rules' posted by different organizations telling us how to strike can be a helpful guideline, but I know you're all gonna be doing it your own way.

So, stripper sisters, tell me about your plans for A Night Without A Woman.
